Carry-on packing starts with the airline’s measurement rules
A bag sold as “cabin size” may not meet every airline’s allowance. Before building a clever packing list, check the rules attached to your actual ticket, including any connecting carrier.

Measure the complete bag
Include wheels, handles and external pockets when the airline’s definition requires them. Check weight limits and whether a personal item is included separately. A fare bundle can matter as much as the route.
Pack for the real itinerary
List the clothing and equipment required for the activities you have planned, then identify items that can serve more than one purpose. Keep essential documents and permitted necessary medication accessible, following applicable transport rules.
Prepare for a gate check
Know what must be removed if the bag is placed in the hold, especially items restricted from checked baggage. Verify current battery and security requirements with the airline and relevant authority. A smaller packing list is useful only if the contents still meet your needs. The objective is a manageable, compliant bag, not winning an internet challenge about traveling with almost nothing.
